hope your summer has gone well and that in this journey, you’ve had a little time by a lake or stream! If not, at least time to sit and contemplate how blessed we are and how faithful God is. These last months have been intense for me with travelling, my daughter getting home from India where she did her YWAM outreach and discovering what it means to be there for a friend with cancer. My daughter came home with a new passion for God and some treasures of wisdom. She reminded me that God is righteous…..He is always right and always just. When we don’t understand why He’s allowed something to happen, like a tsunami or unjust laws or cancer, it is then, in our weakness, we need to remember that He is always right and always just.
I have stood on this as I’ve watched my friend, a young mom in her early thirties, struggle with recurring breast cancer. I’ve watched her lose her hair as she begins a second round of chemotherapy. I’ve watched as her father travails over her in prayer, tears streaming down his cheeks. I’ve watched as her 1 year old and 3 year old cling to her, sensing something is wrong, but not knowing what it is. I’ve watched as her husband struggles to hide his fear and yet be there for her. And through this all, I have stood and will stand on the assurance that God is always right and always just. He knows my friend Christy and loves her and even though none of us know the outcome of this journey, this pilgrim’s progress, I know Jesus will be standing there, waiting to tell her, she truly is a good and faithful servant.
Breakforth 2005
I had the amazing privilege this year, of leading worship on mainstage at Breakforth 2005 in Edmonton. Breakforth is the largest worship conference in Canada, with about 6,500 delegates from across Canada and parts of the US participating. I led worship with Philip Yancey on Sunday morning and also taught a number of workshops and did a small coffeehouse style concert. It was so much fun and I got to hang out with Robin Mark (a worship leader from N. Ireland), through the weekend. I love the Irish humor, because it is so similar to my Canadian humor in that they know how to laugh at themselves. In May, Robin came to Calgary with his pastor Paul Reid from Belfast and I got to work with him again at the Rivers of Worship Conference held annually here in the city. It was wonderful to see churches working together, putting aside their differences, and just loving Jesus in unity.
Global Day of Prayer
In May, our city came together, about 12,000 strong, to pray for our city, the nation and the world. It was an incredible time of unity. I had the privilege of singing “Song for Canada” at this event and it was wonderful to pray with so many intercessors. “Song for Canada” was also used in the Prayer Wave that took place May 14th across Canada. Thousands of women, under the umbrella of Women Alive, came together to pray for our nation. Isn’t it exciting what God is doing?! I’m hearing about movements like this that are happening all over the world!
Songbook available!
Out Of Borderland Songbook is now available. You can purchase it online at my website. We’ve charted “Let All Who Have Breath” for choir and “Veni Sancte Spiritus” is also charted for choir.
Congrats to the newsletter sign up winner!
Congratulations to Michele Bull of Edmonton, Alberta who is the latest winner of the newsletter sign up. She will receive my last 4 CDs, signed with my illegible scrawl!
Teaching
I will be teaching songwriting this fall, at a local Bible School. I’m quite excited about this, as I’ve never taught in this type of environment before. I’m a little nervous, but it’s going to be fun!
Well, that sort of covers it all. Thankyou again to all of you who signed up for the newsletter and also to those who have continued to support me through the years. I’m considering doing a CD that would be a meditation focused project with songs that are more layered vocals and Taize chant-like….similar to what I did on Out of Borderland and Once Upon a Time Forever After. It would be a true celtic CD in its flavor. I would love your feedback on this. Please email me and let me know your thoughts and whether I should pursue this.
I try to keep my schedule page up to date, so if you’re wondering what I’m doing this fall, have a look on my website www.liannaklassen.com
Blessing to you and your families, as you head into fall. May you see God’s steps beside you as you walk this journey and may you have fresh revelation of how right and how just He is.
